I decided to switch out my WTB cross tires with the Schwalbe Snow Studs. The increased width and extra traction made going down the train easier but still difficult. I was the last one to the end again..... The tire change made riding a little slower and harder. But, the trade off on the snow-packed roads was worth it--I could ride with some confidence and didn't have to worry about the roads as much as last ride. I didn't get dropped on any of the snow-packed roads last the last couple of rides.
Although the tires made a big difference, I was really tired for the ride. I had spent about 3 hours in the gym already today spinning and doing weights so an extra long ride wasn't what I was looking for. I guess I started looking tired because a few guys asked how I was doing. Well, I was struggling for about the 2nd half! I managed to do a couple good pulls for dropped riders and managed to get up some hills (that is, overpasses) with some respect but not too much else. All I knew was that I wanted to get home and I wish I hadn't ridden into the ride--meaning an extra 20 minutes on the bike by myself to get home. Definitely a wheel-suck tonight....
I was just glad to finish the ride with the group and without them having to baby me all the way home.
