Ciociaro Race Series

It was ladies' night tonight and there were more women than the previous race. And, like the last race, they were in very fine form, showing the boys how to ride! Tonight, it was clear that team rules were working and the women did a good job of bringing team tactics to the race.

Overall, I finished third in the C race. It was a good race for me as I took the mens prime in a straight out power push on the prime lap (line to line).

As I mentioned, the women of Ciclo Sport used team tactics. In my last post, I said I would attack the field this week to get the boys to do more work. I did this repeatedly but the boys and girls were both hot on my wheels. Amy A. attacked a number of times as well, bringing the girls with her while the boys simply held back. Every time this happened, I led the second group back to the girls with some strong pulls. This occurred a few times but we managed to stay together as a group until the sprint at the end.

Well, with about 200 meters left, as we turned the last corner, a really small gap opened on the right side. I jumped out of the saddle and sprinted to the line. It was really cool as I was about 8th among the men, surrounded by the women. My sprint took me to within a quarter of a wheel from second. John from Courtesy Cycles looked over his shoulder and, as I was catching up, gave his own push to the finish.

Overall, I was happy with my sprint although it hurt my thumbs (still sore from the Paris to Ancaster race).

It is fun with the C riders and women but I think next Ciociaro will see me in the B race.
