Winter Ride Challenge Series #2

Today marked the second of the WRCS. It was cold again and there was a great turnout at the East End Riders' home ride location at the Second Cup. Like always, I was late getting to the ride but got lucky and they hadn't left yet. Or at least I thought I was lucky....

Well, not so lucky. I was getting on my gear while the long line of riders started to pull out of the parking lot. I finished getting my gear on as the last rider pulled out. I jumped on and figured that it would be no problem catching up but I had a rubbing noise on my tires and didn't know what was going on. So I pulled over to check it out.

Well, it was just the cadence sensor on the chain stay. I got off and adjusted it. Got back on and went to the road and, to my surprise, I couldn't see the riders anywhere! So, I turned out left (which I later learned was the wrong way) and raced as fast as I could in the wrong direction. After about 45 minutes of time-trialing I decided to stop to make an adjustment to my saddle and take care of nature. Well, I looked up from my saddle I could see a line of black spots coming my way. I had actually rode in front of the group and travelled about an extra 4 km!!! Well, put away all my tools and got ready to join up.

To make a long story short, I joined up with the group and it ended up being a hard ride for me today. I did a lot of pulling and jumping between groups and, by the time I got back to Second Cup, I was pretty tired. It was a good ride and the cold was forgotten in about 5 minutes.
