Ciociaro Thursday Series Race #4

Well, this was one of those days that staying home would have been the better option than going to race. The weather forecast was for thunder storms and hail with really nasty winds. So who would want to go to a bike race...and it was already raining which apparently broke a whole pile of records for rain.
There's not too much to report. It looked as though only about 30 riders or so showed up for the B race and I think that 8 were from Courtesy. It seems that better judgement kept most people at home. The hail and thunderstorms missed us and we just all got wet--not to mention that the temperature dropped to about 8 degrees very quickly.

I didn't get very much of a warm up for the race with only about 6 minutes on the track after our team meeting. This certainly affected my race but I had thought I could overcome that. Usually, the lack of warm up was something that could be worked out as the group usually goes fairly slow at the start.

I'm not too sure what happened but, after about 18 minutes I dropped off the back. I pushed but soon a 32 second gap formed from nowhere. I managed to push hard and got up to a 20 second gap, figuring that I could time-trial it back to the group, but then got pulled from the race. Although the rules say that a dropped rider is out, it should be more open to those gaining on the main group and does seem unfair as it's an absolute rule. It really sucks as there is a difference between dropping off because of no legs and when it happens and the rider can catch up. Especially as this is only a local training race. I was really angry after the race because I had done all the work to almost cut the gap in half and could have just as well stayed home nice and dry.

Well, c'est la vie.
